I love this tweet by Gary Vaynerchuk.
Gary and I actually talked about this in a video that he and I did together. Something he said in that video,
“I’m screaming louder than everybody so, boy oh boy, if I’m full of crap do I have a big drop.”
I wrote an eBook about being nice and building relationships. Here is an excerpt from my eBook “Stop Contacting, Start Connecting“,
I’ve heard too many managers, trainers, team leaders, coaches concerned about the size of an agents database. Or how many calls are they making. As Gary says, “It’s not about how many viewers you have, it’s about how passionate they are.”
It’s not about how many people are in your database, it’s about how passionate they are. It’s not about how many calls you made today, it’s about did you connect with anyone? It’s not about how many people came to your open house, it’s about did you bond with a buyer? It’s not about how many fans/friends you have on your facebook page, it’s about your interaction with them. It’s not about how many followers you have on twitter, it’s about how engaged are with them and they with you.
My objective is to change your perspective. It’s not about more, it’s about less.
Imagine this.
Does that make any sense? It doesn’t make any sense to think of real estate as a numbers game either, that’s because it’s a relationship business.
Susan Scott, best selling author, describes in her book Fierce Leadership that conversations need to be thought of like scuba diving, instead of skimming across the surface like we are water-skiing. I’m here to tell you to stop skimming across the surface, go deep.
Susan also in that book writes
“Business broadly speaking, has taught us to spend the minimum amount of time with consumers needed to make the sale or resolve the problem, so that we can get on to the next customer. What efficiency expert came up with that one?!”
I know that if you focused on the relationship, on the person, on truly connecting and really engaging, that your business will be what you desire. Stop focusing on the number of calls made, leads generated, or the size of your database. Go deep.
