It can also be distracting too.
And you have to ask yourself
“Will a logo actually, truly make or break the success of my real estate business?”
I don’t think it will. A logo isn’t something that people look at on first glance and make a decision about the business. (Unless it is really, really awful.)
Look at the Nike logo.
Would you have seriously picked this design to represent your business? Be honest.
But now it is a powerful representation of the business…because the business became powerful.
Look at Nike’s competitor Adidas.

Again. Nothing special going on here.
Three stripes.
These are some of the most powerful, most recognized names in the shoe industry and look at the simplicity of their logo design.
Another logo that I think is interesting of a company that is doing well. Netflix.
Their logo looks to me like it is done in WordArt.
That hasn’t stopped them from putting Blockbuster out of business. I bet they where more focused on their business model, strategy, marketing and implementation, then the logo.
How does it seem to be working out for Netflix, having just simple text as their logo?
Creating a logo for your real estate business
(or creating your real estate business development strategy and executing)
Where do you think the money really is? Where do you think the value in what you offer your clients is at?
Don’t let the logo design or lack of one dictate the growth of your real estate business.
One of my favorite examples of this is the Big Ten conference in the NCAA. If you have been following my content here on have connected with me on twitter or facebook, you know that I’m a huge UW-Madison Badger fan. The Badgers belong to the Big Ten Conference. Guess how many schools are in the Big Ten?
There are 11.
Having the name Big Ten didn’t stop them from expanding to 11. Check out their logo. the brilliance and simplicity of it, but how it represents there are 11 teams.
Do you see the 11 in there?
On the side of the T, between the G and the E?
What will be really interesting, is the Big Ten, just added another school. Nebraska will be joining the conference in 2011-2012.
I haven’t seen the new Big Ten logo yet representing the 12 schools.
But, do you think the decisions makers said,
“Wait!!! We can’t expand! We can’t grow to 12! Because we don’t have a logo for this yet.
Lets come up with some logo designs and after we finalize that, we can go look for some other schools to join our conference.”
If you want to grow a successful real estate business, or shoe company, or movie company or NCAA conference, it seems like logo design isn’t that important.
Realtor branding especially doesn’t seem to be about logo design or self promotion anymore. Check out Lifestyle Branding For Realtors with Wendy Forsythe and What you can learn from the Girls Scouts.
Get focused on your marketing. Design a strong strategy. Implement the tactics daily that will help you succeed. Create systems that will help you duplicate results.
Once you have this stuff going and you have some momentum, go hire a great a designer to come up with your logo and TRUST THEM. You do what is dollar productive for you and trust them to do what they do.
Get focused on growing your business before you get to distracted about creating a logo for your real estate business.
